Flxible VistaLiner Motorhome Completely Updated

This Flxible VistaLiner VL-100 is truly one of a kind! It is #120 of 220 built. There are apparently only 10 of these classic buses on the road today. Elvis Presley even owned one! A previous owner was a classic car enthusiast and pulled a car trailer behind it when he participated in classic car events. This bus attracted as much attention as the classic cars! The bus is a fully functioning motorhome (and is registered as a motorhome).

This Flxible is a dream to drive and cruises comfortably. The coach is powered by a 350 HP Detroit Turbo Diesel 6V-92.  The engine was completely rebuilt in 2020 by Central Truck Service in East Bethel, MN.  It has a 4-speed Allison automatic transmission and power steering.   The suspension, hydraulic lines, and brakes were recently checked and fixed. Tires were replaced in 2019 and have low mileage on them.  They are Uniroyal RS20 11R22.5 Radial.  Re-groveable.  The bus weighs 33,000 pounds.

The New LED bulbs were installed on the entire exterior in November 2019. The bus has a 10 KW Yanmar diesel generator, new rooftop AC and basement air. The bus has Dupont Imiron paint and retains the factory lines and trim that it had when it left the factory back in 1955.

The interior of the bus is a work of art. The bus has been redone in Birdseye maple and black walnut by a master carpenter in Michigan. It took him 2 years to complete. There is absolutely not another bus like it. The pictures do not do it justice. It is truly beautiful. The bus sleeps 4 and can be set up with either a king size bed in the rear or Twin bed setup.  The bi-level interior also includes a full bathroom with a tiled shower, electric fridge, microwave, flat screen tv, 2 burner electric cooktop, and microwave oven. There are 3 large skylights on the ceiling throughout the length of the bus for star gazing and 2 additional forward facing skylights (has covers to block light) in the kitchen area, allowing tons of light inside! LOTS of storage in the interior and there are also 4 large luggage/cargo storage compartments underneath the bus (one, housing the generator). Decorative vinyl panels, curtains, and interior upholstery (including the matching captain’s chair) was recently re-done! If you are looking for something unique and special, THIS IS IT!

Flxible VistaLiner VL-100 History
Flxible built 208 of the split-level VistaLiner VL-100 in Loudenville, Ohio, from 1954 through 1958. Continental Trailways purchased 126 of these 39-passenger buses. They could be ordered with either a Cummins JT 600 or General Motors 6-71 diesel engine. The VL-100 had a separate gasoline engine to power the air-conditioning. Some of the other companies to order this coach were Colorado Motorways, Missouri Transit Lines and Painter Bus Lines of Texas.

The Two Level Bus

The two level “VistaLiner”, or VL-100, was first introduced in late 1954, with first delivery in 1955 to The “Blue & White Lines” in Altoona, PA (sn 10101). This vital departure from the Clipper line offered new comfort for passengers and reliability for operators. It was the “King Of The Highway” with torsilastic springs, independent front suspension, air conditioning, comfortable seating and individual loudspeakers for recorded music, this coach was designed to give operators the vehicle needed to maintain service which could compete successfully with other types of inter-city transportation.

In The following years, Flxible increased production, adding the assembly plant in Delaware. They also added several models of buses, among them the Starliner, the Hi-Level, the Flxette, and the FlxLiner. In 1961, the “New Look” transit coach was introduced. This edition was soon accepted as an industry standard, and continued to be so for the next 18 years. The coach featured a rear mounted Detroit Diesel engine, an enlarged reflection free windshield, double bay passenger windows, and fluorescent lighting. These coaches were later equipped with wheelchair lifts and special features to make them more accessible for handicapped and elderly patrons.
